Thoughts on the NBA situation
Firstly, apologies to Ed Lane (@EdLaneMedia), I got your tweet just as I was heading off to be last night, my part of Australia is 14 hours ahead of you guys back home, and this morning it was the mad dash to get out of the door.
Now at large...Through the mad rush of things that I have been asked about the last few days re the "Sterling Situation" along with going through the normal activities of daily living, I had not been asked about the Larry Johnson tweets in the midst of it all, after reading the tweets and article that Mr. Lane referred me to:
I do not think an All Black NBA is the answer, to me it would be taking a giant step back from the progress made in the field of integration/acceptance paved by the likes of Sweetwater Clifton, Bill Russell, Chuck Cooper in basketball and others such as Jackie Robinson , Jesse Owens, Muhammad Ali and countless others from various sports fields.
Wouldn't an All-Black league be a reverse/reverting to and take away some of the accomplishment of Negro League baseball in paving the way for integration of of sports and society at large.
The reversion would not allow for the possibility of an child of colour such as myself growing up to have not only black heroes but also heroes or idols such as Larry "Legend" Bird, Pistol Pete Maravich and others...
So yes...miffed is a good way of describing Mr. Johnson's opinions but nothing personal towards him, he would not be high on my list of people of colour to look to for quotes, etc on the topic.
